Dairy products are thought to stimulate mucus and phlegm production.
According to a study, participants who did not consume dairy products secreted much less mucus in their noses compared to participants who did. Still, the theory about the relationship of dairy products to mucus is plausible, but requires more research.
Another study shows that allergic reactions to milk can increase the production of nasal polyps, which is a common cause of sinusitis.
Yet another study says the incidence of chronic sinusitis is increased in those with milk allergies.
If you suspect that milk is exacerbating your symptoms, talk to a specialist. You may be advised not to consume or reduce dairy products to see if your symptoms improve.
Unless you have a dairy allergy or sensitivity, you may not need to exclude it from your diet.
